Charters Towers to Belyando Crossing Roadhouse, 22nd May,2024

Not a lot doing today. Left Charters Towers at 8.00am but only travelled 200kms. Now at a Roadhouse for the night called Belyando Crossing. There wasn’t much choice as our next destination for tomorrow is 300kms. So it was having the night here or travelling 500km which we would never do in a day. But the Aussies would in their big rigs. We thought that this place would be a bit run down but very nice for a stop over,  quiet and had a relaxing afternoon sitting under the trees. We were the only ones here until one other camper arrived later on.  Mostly new staff here who were very friendly and helpful. Apparently the old staff all got the sack except two of them. So if you asked any questions the answer was I don’t know I have only been here two days. But it was always a joke and they would have a laugh and always found out the answer. A good new crew. I’m sure it will give the place a lift, if they can keep them. Not much life for the young ones working out here in the sticks. As you will pick up we are slowing down from all the action we had in the Red Centre. That area has to be the highlights of our trip but still nice just drifting along now. We only have nine more nights in the waggon. Gosh!!!

This was taken yesterday at Charters campground. The place was beautifully kept and well presented.

These two kangaroos running down the side of the road beside us.

After they ran across right in front of us. But far enough away for us to be aware of them. Look at baby on the left stretched
right out trying to keep up with mum.

Mum is off into the grass.

Have now arrived at Belyando Crossing Roadhouse. Not a big place but nicely presented inside for a Roadhouse.

Standing out the front looking across the forecourt along the big wide entrance where the trucks are parked. Main highway to the left along the tree line.

Birthday boy sitting next to a pole with two taps and two power connections. 🙃 At the back of Belyandos Crossing Roadhouse. Going over for a big Roadhouse meal tonight. I probably won’t be able to eat it all. So will bring half back and have it tomorrow night.

Went for a walk down the back of the property where this muddy river flows through.

I am now standing down the back of the property, next to the river looking back up to where the cabins and power sites are under the trees. We are more over the hill out of sight. So quiet just the birds making a racket.

Our spot, nobody around, but one other camper turned up later.

Over in the bar getting a birthday drink before dinner. First alcohol since we left home. We are just happy drinking a ginger beer under a tree in the afternoon beside the van.

🎈Drinks  before dinner. 🍺

We decided to get a takeaway box from the buffet so we could pile it up, quite a bit, to make it a meal for tomorrow night as well. Bit cheeky!! PT had eaten half of his before I even got started. First meal that we haven’t cooked in the van.  After our full on days we just prefer to cook and stay in. Don’t really like going out at night. But easy behind a Roadhouse.

Tomorrow off to Lake Maraboon for two nights 300kms away.
