Alice Springs, 13th May,2024.

Second full day in Alice Springs being very busy lots to see. Left camp at 7.15am to see and do a few things around town before heading out west again alongMacDonnell Range. We went back to pick up where we left off to see the last two sites as we ran out of time yesterday. One more night here and leaving tomorrow to continue heading up north. We certainly needed the three nights in Alice as so much to fit in.We have now completed all of the RED  CENTRE WAY  aka THE RED DESERT, that we had planned to do. It’s been a fun area to see even though it’s been full on. As from tomorrow the next four nights will be only one night stops. Mainly  driving days and some relaxing time in the afternoons as we cover a few kilometres to get us well into Queensland. After tonight two more nights in Northern Territory. Such a great area to explore.

After we had been to the supermarket to stock up we arrived at the  Old Women’s Gaol museum. But as it wasn’t opening until 9.00am and it was only 8.30am, we took a photo through the bars, then  decided to move on.

It was harder to get into Gaol than to get out.

Looking down the main streets of Alice Springs from Anzac Hill

Looking out to the west MacDonnell Range where we have been exploring.

We also went and saw the Alice Springs Telegraph Station which I will include and explain in my blog in a couple of days after we have seen the one in Tennent Creek. As we were leaving the Telegraph Station this mother and baby Kangaroo ran across the road in front of us. Lucky we were going slowly as coming out of a side road. They blend in with the colours around them, so hard to see them.
We also dropped by Maui again to pick up a further doona to combat the cold overnight temperatures.

Now at the first site of the day of the two we have gone back to see in the west MacDonnell Range.

SIMPSON GAP

Walking up the track to the GAP coming in sight ahead.

First sight of Simpson Gap.

Right up to it now

Another very pretty area.

Look at these reflections, beautiful.

Looking up high and still can’t get the whole Gap in.

Turning away looking the other way.

Same area as above moving along a bit further.

Now left the Gap and driving along looking up at these swirling clouds.

Now arrived at our last  site STANLEY CHASM, which would be the best of them all.

Walking along the track up to the Chasm.

Just having a rest under this overhanging rock.

Track getting a bit rocky always have to watch your step, can’t really look up much as you walk.

Now just round the corner there it will be.

This amazing Chasm. Again too high to get the top in the picture. Amazing sight.

As we got closer this little pool  surrounded by lovely different shaped rocks.

Trying to look up higher above the pool, but still can’t get the top in.

Still no top to be seen in a photo.

If you look closer in, you will see me with what looks like a very unusual hair style. But no, the sun is reflecting on the rock behind my head which makes it look part of my hair. And no I am not coming home looking like a Punk.

Well, that’s the end of the Red Centre Way. You readers will be happy to see no more red rocks, red sand, gaps, chasms, gorges and big waterholes. Although on saying that as we head north in a couple of days we will be visiting the DEVILS MARBLES which yes are RED.
