Kings Canyon to Ghan, 10th May, 2024

 We had another night at Kings Canyon tonight but decided to pack up this morning and return for one night at Ghan then head north to Alice Springs. It was only going to be a rest day so weren’t missing out on anything.The reason for this is the Maui Depot in Alice Springs is the only Maui Depot we will go past on the whole trip. Maui always say any problems on the way to stop in and sort anything out. Also they are shut on Sundays hence getting up there tomorrow Saturday. Nothing serious just a few in house things need attention and PT wants to see where he can pick up the oil level readings and the AdBlue which is something you have to put into diesel engines over here. It’s a liquid so when it gets low you have to fill it up.  But all good, gives us an extra night in Alice Springs. Just added one more night which will give us three nights. Lots to see from Alice. Exploring the MacDonnell Ranges. While we are there we will spend a day driving about 135kms west then driving back to Alice stopping at all the sights and places to stop and see in the Ranges. There are quite a few interesting  places.This will involve doing walking tracks but no big walks. If we don’t see every place in a day we will go back the next day and finish off what we hadn’t seen. These ranges are still in the Red area. Looking forward to seeing it all. I wasn’t going to do a blog tonight as have only been on the road for about three hours but PT wanted me  to explain why we needed to leave and get up to Alice Springs. But on saying all that everything is fine and all going to plan. Just another driving day tomorrow, going to see Maui and then checking in to camp for the rest of the Day. Hope to do MacDonnell on Sunday and maybe some Monday. Then continuing north on Tuesday. Might give the blog a miss tomorrow night as there won’t be much happening.

This shot shows the road on the right of the roadhouse is the road going out west to the RED CENTRE. Ayers Rock, Olga’s and Kings  Canyon. The road going across the top of photo is the way  up to Alice Springs heading away to the left. Now to explain why I am telling you this,  is that this camping ground behind the roadhouse is a very popular place to stop for a night before going out to the Red Centre AKA The Red Desert. About 350km west,. Lots use this stopover to go out west then stay again when they come back before heading North or South,  As we have done. We had a night here five days ago. 😎
