Yulara(Ayers Rock) to Kings Canyon, 8th, May, 2024

Three and a half hour drive today to get to Kings Canyon arriving in camp just before midday. Really nicely laid out sites. We are in an ensuite site which consists of our own bathroom as you will see in the photos. Haven’t been anywhere else today, just catching up on DC, washing etc and just doing nothing. We have the big climb up to the rim of the Canyon tomorrow 🤞🤞Don’t know if I will make it up the 500 steps to do the 6km walk around the rim, crossing over a bridge where the canyon gets narrow. Then walk the rest of the rim on the other side before the descend Down. Not only but also there is another lot of steps you can go down into a garden then back up again to continue the rest of the rim 🤔🤔. I am determined to do the lot but anything could happen. I might take one look at the whole situation and just say no not for me. It was going to be one of my highlights so I hope I can manage it. Watch this space.

THE RED CENTRE WAY

This  sign sits at the intersection of the road out to Ayers Rock and the road out to Kings Canyon. The rusty colour of the iron  and what the sign says, fits in well with the area. Our camper behind. I missed the photo going into Uluṟu so got it now.

As I said above, we just did the drive but wanted to show how  the scenery has changed quite a bit. Just scrub land now.

Our  first sight of Kings Canyon

Closer although a bit dark as sun shining on the other side

Roads aren’t so good along here which is bad as they must get a lot of people travelling out here.. narrow and no centre line, although there could be an old faint one. Since we left SA into NT the roads have got worse. We noticed it a couple of years ago when we did Perth to Darwin the same with excellent roads in WA and big change into NT deteriorating. As soon as you cross the borders. It’s like that’s your side and this is my side. 🤔

We are just coming into Watarrka National Park and Kings Canyon is within the National Park.

This is the view behind the camp  looking over at the Canyon. Beautiful spot. The camp is part of a resort. Apart from a gas station and a shop that’s all that is here in the middle of all this open land. Just magic. The drive tomorrow to the Canyon is only 8km.

The sun had come round this side making it look a bit brighter.

Zoomed in just as the sun was going down

Sun just about leaving the rock. It’s great how the low sun brings out all the rich red colour. That’s why they have sunset and sunrise tours to these places like here and Ayers Rock.

As nothing doing today I will take you for a quick tour around camp. We are looking out towards the Canyon. We don’t have front row but not too far to walk over to take the sunset.

Looking back at the Wagon, (lorry as Dave calls it.) you will notice our own ensuite bathroom. We always book them if the camps have them. Some do and some don’t. Just a shower vanity and toilet. Outside water Tap and power hook up for the ‘lorry’

Looking down the road you will see that they all have ensuites in this row.

Sitting in the back of the wagon, looking out the side window, over to  the Canyon range.

One more, inside looking out the back window, up through the park. You can see how spacious the place is with big sites. The areas are set out with the red stones as over the back of us. Nobody is close like most parks.
