Yulara , we are staying for three nights, is the name of the town , 20km from Uluṟu (Ayers Rock). Left camp
at 7.15am heading out to Ayers Rock 20km from our camp. Lots of People go out really early to see the sunrise but we decided to give that a miss. As we were driving out the sun was just coming up. Had a really good day, did two walks first one was the Mala Walk we decided to take the 10am walk as that time was taken with a Ranger who was very good giving us all the history of Uluṟu but I won’t go into all that. Second walk was Kuniya walk. We didn’t do the walk right round the rock which was 9.4km. With our two walks we covered 6km easy flat walking. It wasn’t too hot either as there was a nice breeze. The temperatures have been really good as the nights are getting colder now so the mornings take awhile to warm up. Hence the reason for starting early before the mid day sun. First walk was in the morning then we took time out in the Wagon and had lunch. Then about 1.30pm did the second walk arriving back at camp about 3.30pm. Just a great day.

WOW what a day, just can’t put every photo in that I would like. But probably still too many.
Left camp on our way. Sun just coming up.
Sun just up
Coming along the road approaching our first walk
Arrived at the car park.
The faint white mark going up the side of the rock was when they used to be allowed to climb up until it was too dangerous they had to put a stop to it as below.
This is an old photo I found showing how they climbed Uluṟu. Just a chain to hold onto. Too bad if you wanted to turn round and go down. That would have been impossible. We were told that there had been 37 deaths with people falling off since it was opened in the1930’s
until they closed it in 2019 as it was putting too much strain on the medical services with all the call outs
On the Mala Walk half caves on the side of rock. We heard the stories how people lived in these caves.
So much contrast in the Rock as you will see. So different what you expect. From a distance you think of it as an oblong shape but it’s really more round. You see this well when you drive right round it.
The photos just don’t show the height of these walls
This is where the water runs down in the wet weather. Note the clouds at the top of the pic.
This was so high standing under it I just couldn’t get it all in.
Leaving the Mala walk
After the Mala walk after lunch in the van and some time out we were driving to the next walking spot
————————
Below we are now at the Kuniya Walk. It was like a small gorge that collected water off the Rock into a water hole. Then had a run off out to the fields
What colour, the Rock I mean.
This is the water hole, where the water collects and runs away.
If you look closely we are wearing fly nets. Thank goodness, makes such a difference. We haven’t had to use them until today. I think these National Parks are the worst places for flies
That split doesn’t look to safe, especially when you see all the boulders at the bottom.
Just wish the photos indicated how high this is.
This one is so high when you get under it. Tried everything to get the height into the photo but no way. My head was bent back so far looking up and still couldn’t get it in.
So many different textures this one is quite different
Back out on the road, just a few photos above and below. as we drove away from the park on the western side. We started the day on the Eastern side.
Last shot ad we left the Park.
Tomorrow off to Kata Tjuṯa for the day which is 50kms away from base. Some say it’s better than Uluṟu so we will see.
